Horn Lantern

his sort of horn lantern was depicted by Pieter Brueghal in several works.

The lantern has five sides of equal proportions; one side has a door on wooden peg hinges for access to the candle cup.  Frames on sides, their five staves, bottom and part of top is wood.  At the top is a metal dome with a large hole in the center.  Bail is square-sided wire.  This being a replica of a 16thC horn lantern, of course the panes for all five sides are of genuine horn.
